In this video, I'll take you along as I explore the scenic beauty of the area and uncover its intriguing history. Mission one takes me to Lorne Falls and the power station, tracing back the past to the early 20th century when Finnish settlers established homes and farms here. The remnants of the lumber industry, which stripped the land of its pines, come to light as I delve into the construction of the original power generating station in 1907. While paddling eastward, memories of the past merge with the present landscape. The Beaver Lake community's Finnish settlers once owned most of the homes and farms in the region. As I paddle over 14 km (9 miles) in a figure eight pattern on the Vermilion River and Lake Wabagishik, I reflect on the interconnected waterways of the Vermilion River system. Diving deeper into mission two, I set out to find the precise spot where Franklin Carmichael of the Group of Seven painted "Lake Wabagishik" in 1928. Navigating the landscape, I search for clues that would lead me to the exact viewpoint he captured. Considering Carmichael's artistic tendencies, I explore hills that might have inspired his interpretation and discover rock formations that echo those in his artwork. Though my quest doesn't yield a definitive answer, the excitement of the journey propels me forward. As I explore vantage points, analyze terrain, and compare distances, I bring you along on this adventure to uncover a hidden piece of art history. Despite the uncertainties, the pursuit continues as I remain determined to unravel the mystery of Carmichael's inspiration. As a teenager, he worked in his father's workshop in Orillia, Ont., As a horse-drawn car decorator. The volutes allow him to develop his talents as a designer, draftsman and colorist. In 1911, his interest in art took him to Toronto, where he attended Central Technical School and the Ontario College of Art. Although he draws on the motif in many parts of Ontario, including Georgian Bay and the north shore of Lake Superior, it is La Cloche, where the family cottage is located, that remains his favorite spot. Best known as a watercolor artist, Camichael was the youngest of the founding members of the Group of Seven.

The youngest of the Group of Seven, Franklin Carmichael was born in 1890 in Orillia, Ontario. His father was a carriage maker. Carmichael arrived in Toronto at the age of twenty and entered the Ontario College of Art, where he studied with William Cruickshank and George Reid. In 1911, he began working as an apprentice at Grip Ltd. for $2.50 a week. He then joined Tom Thomson and other painters who were training to become serious artists, joining them on weekend sketching trips. He moved to Belgium in 1913 to study painting but due to the war soon returned to his native Ontario to rejoin the other artists. Carmichael was greatly influenced by Tom Thomson and shared space with him at the Studio Building in 1914. He was also on the fringe of the group because of his difference in age and was closely associated with the newer members of the Group of Seven. In 1915, Carmichael married Ada Lillian Went. Along with A. J. Casson and F. H. Brigden, Carmichael founded the Ontario Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1925. He also founded the Canadian Group of Painters in 1933, which several members of the Group of Seven would later join. He taught at the Ontario College of Art from 1932 to 1945. A 44-x-55-cm watercolour entitled "Lone Lake" painted in 1929, considered to be the highlight of a major sale of Canadian art in May 2012 at Joyner Waddington's spring art auction in Toronto, ON, reached $330,400, including the 18 per cent auction house premium. The subject of the painting is a small lake called Carmichael Lake in the La Cloche Mountains of Killarney Provincial Park near Sudbury, Ont. Robbie launched a huge jump on to the top of the Arc (modeled after the real one in France) at the Paris Casino in Sin City, but that was the easy part. He then turned around and jumped off, dropping about 10 stories and almost overshooting the landing completely. Luckily, he saved it, because that one would not have felt too good.
